This specimen was lot 71220 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1886-Zs S. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-65. Finest of only four coins graded by NGC. Very nice frosty white with partial blue peripheral tone. Scarce[r] of the two assayers this year. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The SCWC says assayer S is more common than assayer Z for 1886. Assayer S operated 1876-86 and assayer Z 1886-1904. The Zacatecas mint was one of four mints to strike five centavos with the redesigned eagle, starting in 1898.

Recorded mintage: 360,000 including assayer Z and 1886/4 overdate.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, reeded edge.
