from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 71199

This specimen was lot 71199 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1886-Pi R. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC VF Details--Bent. Second best of two in the NGC Census. Scarce. Original toning with a bend as noted by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." Shown is an 1886-P^I R five centavos, of a type struck at the Potosi mint 1869-79, 1886-93. This issue is not common tho it is not a rarity like 1869-P^I, 1870-P^I, 1872-P^I or 1878-P^I.

Recorded mintage: 33,000.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, reeded edge.
