This specimen was lot 72194 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 25 Centavos, 1886-Zs Z. Zacatecas Mint. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned. Only example graded by NGC. Attractive multi-color toning that obscures most evidence of cleaning. Scarcer assayer, especially in high grade. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1873-90 at the Zacatecas mint, which closed in 1905. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. This assayer operated 1886-1904.

Recorded mintage: 613,000 including assayer S.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.
