This specimen was lot 73215 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $504. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1826-Go MJ. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS Genuine--Gouged, EF Details. A presentable example of this RARE date, displaying a full strike with eye-catching mottled olive toning. A deep but narrow scratch along the obverse rim accounts for the designation, but this drawback is relatively easy to overlook." For 1826, the SCWC lists assayer MJ (rare) and JJ (slightly scarce). Assayer MJ is noted for 1826-33. Most Guanajuato issues are common to very common but the dates 1825-28 are infrequently seen.
