Mexico 1826-Mo JM 8 escudos

Stack's Bowers 2015 NYINC sale, lot 1283

The Mexico City mint struck eight escudos 1824-69 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common. This date known only as the overdate and is scarce. This specimen was lot 1283 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $4,406.25. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 8 Escudos, 1826/5-MoJM. PCGS MS-61 Secure Holder. Scarce date. Well struck with minor weakness in centers. Reflective surfaces and good eye appeal."

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW.
