Mexico 1827-Mo JM 8 escudos

Goldberg sale 75, lot 3659

The Mexico City mint struck eight escudos 1824-69 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common. This specimen was lot 3659 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $1,898. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico. 8 Escudos, 1827-Mo JM. Hand on book. Attractive lustrous example. NGC graded AU-58."

Recorded mintage: unknown but a fairly common date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.
