This specimen was part of lot 72168 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $390.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Group of 1/2 Reales (10 Pieces), 1827-31. Guanajuato Mint. Grade Range: FINE to VERY GOOD. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Zacatecas and Guanajuato were the two mints that made a serious effort to produce minor coinage for local use; the other mints preferred to concentrate on striking eight reales for export. Guanajuato half reales are known for 1826-62 and 1867-68 and this is a fairly common date. Assayer MJ served 1826-33. No regular date is listed in the SCWC.
