Ponterio sale 159, lot 8148

This specimen was lot 8148 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $431.25. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guanajuato. 1/2 Real, 1826-GoMJ. VERY RARE. VERY FINE." It was struck at the Guanajuato mint in 1826, one of a type struck there 1826-68. Assayer MJ is listed for 1826-33. Most Guanajuato issues are common but this first year of issue is rare.
