This specimen was lot 23406 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1826-MoJM. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Sharply struck with beaming luster that exceptionally flashy on the obverse. VERY SCARCE quality for this early date and presently the top coin graded at PCGS." Shown is an 1826MoJM two reales, one of a type struck at the Mexico City mint 1825-68. Assayer JM is recorded this mint for the years 1823-32. Other mints include Zacatecas, Guanajuato, Alamos, Hermosillo, Guadalajara, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Potosi, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. This is a common date of a common mint.
