This specimen was lot 72220 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1826-Zs AV. Zacatecas Mint. PCGS Genuine--Gouged, VF Details Gold Shield. A moderately handled example of this early Zacatecas issue that is considered "Rare" in Resplandores." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is scarce compared to the later issues of the 1880's and 1890's. Assayer AV is recorded for 1826 only; assayers AO and AZ are also noted for this date. Only assayer AZ is common.
