This specimen was part of lot 72461 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $793. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Group of Reales (10 Pieces), 1826-36. Zacatecas Mint. Grade Range: FINE to VERY FINE. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated. This specimen was struck at the Zacatecas mint in 1826, one of a type struck there 1826-62 and 1868-69. Assayer AZ is recorded at this mint for 1825-26 along with AO (1826-29).
