The first specimen was lot 73159 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $823.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1827-Zs AO. Zacatecas Mint. NGC EF-40. KM-374.12. Variety with "10D" without "s". Very rare variety. Only examples graded by NGC and only example known to this cataloger. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." The second specimen was lot 73160 in the same sale, where it sold for $561.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1827-Zs AO. Zacatecas Mint. NGC EF-45. Finest of three graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This specimen was struck at the Zacatecas mint in 1827, one of a type struck there 1825-62 and 1868-69. Assayer AO is recorded at this mint for the years 1826-29. The SCWC does not mention the missing "S" variety.
