Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70433

The first specimen was lot 464 in Morton & Eden sale 104 (London, November 2019), where it sold for £220 (about US$341 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic, Facing Eagle Coinage, 8 reales, Guanajuato mint, 1825 JJ, normal mintmark, large J's, good very fine, on a broad and slightly misshapen flan." This date also comes with mintmark G (rare) and a few struck with the "hook neck" eagle (KM-A376.1). The second specimen was lot 70433 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $336. The catalog description^[2] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1825-Go JJ. Guanajuato Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Variety with "upright eagle". Very scarce first year of issue. Impressively defined with pleasant iridescent hues atop the surfaces."

Recorded mintage: unknown but somewhat scarce.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, 0.785 troy oz ASW.
