Mexico 1825-Mo JM 2 reales
This specimen was lot 24223 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1825-Mo JM. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. Uniquely toned, with bright luster in the fields and sharp definition around the legends that softens at places in the centers. The finer--by far--of just two graded for the date in the PCGS census. Ex: Richard Ponterio Collection." The Mexico City mint struck two reales 1825-37, 1840-42, 1847-63, 1867-69. This mint is awarded little premium by the SCWC yet is much less often seen than Guanajuato or Zacatecas. The exception is the 1861-Mo CH, which is the only republic two reales common in Gem BU.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver.
