Künker sale 354, lot 5714

This specimen was lot 5714 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €650 (about US$905 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/6 Taler 1739, Clausthal. RR Prachtexemplar. Herrliche Tönung, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 49, Osnabrück 1999, Nr. 1823. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George II, 1727-60, one sixth thaler of 1739, Clausthal mint. Choice example, superb toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type depicting the elector is recorded for 1739-40. Other one-sixth thalers include KM 267 (stallion reverse) and 1739-IBH (wild man reverse). The elector George II was also king George II of England.
