Hannover 1739-CPS thaler Dav-2086
This specimen was lot 42227 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,500. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1739-CPS. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS MS-62. Displaying with a rich and attractive lilac hue, this full Mint State Taler is rather stunning. When cradled, an iridescence nearly jumps off the coin." This type is listed for 1727-49 and is reasonably common. It closely resembles the "leaping stallion" thalers of his predecessor George I (Dav-2073). The elector of Hannover was also king of England. Other thalers (Dav-2087, Dav-2092) exist for 1739.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
