Hannover 1738-IAB thaler Dav-2092
The first specimen was lot 1275 in Ponterio sale 173 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $558. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Calenberg-Hanover. Taler, 1738-IAB. PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. George II August (1727-60). Lightly toned." The second specimen was lot 55581 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. Taler, 1738-IAB. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). Extremely Fine Details -- Plugged, Cleaned. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type is listed for 1727-49 and is reasonably common. The elector was also king of England. Other thalers (Dav-2089, Dav-2087, Dav-2086, Dav-2095, Dav-2097) exist for 1738. The last "wildman" thaler was struck in Hannover in 1755.
