Hannover 1737 thaler Dav-2096
This specimen was lot 5712 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €6,000 (about US$8,350 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg II. 1727-1760. Reichstaler 1737, Clausthal, auf den Tod seiner Gemahlin Wilhelmine Karoline Charlotte, Tochter des Markgrafen Johann Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach, am 1. Dezember. Brustbild der Königin l. mit Diadem und umgelegtem Mantel, darunter vier Zeilen Schrift//18 Zeilen Schrift. RR Prachtexemplar. Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Tönung, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion LHS Numismatik 100, Zürich 2007, Nr. 863. This rare commemorative was accompanied by a quarter thaler (KM 254) and a half thaler (KM 256). The elector George II was also king George II of England.
