Hannover 1740-IBH 4 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 5716 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €160 (about US$223 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg II. 1727-1760. 4 Mariengroschen 1740, Zellerfeld. R Vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Erworben 1967 von H. Priesmeier. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George II, 1727-60, four mariengroschen of 1740, Zellerfeld mint. Rare, extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1730-60 and, while not rare, is expensive in good condition. Four mariengroschen = 1/9 thaler. The elector George II was also king George II of England.
