Sincona sale 83, lot 2570

This specimen was lot 2570 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 80 CHF (about US$107 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Herzogtum, Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/3 Taler 1740, Zellerfeld. Feinsilber. Mit der Münzmeistersignatur IBH. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer (Rare, Very fine-extremely fine, Small scratches)." The 12 mariengroschen was terminated after 1715. This one-third thaler, which superseded it, was struck 1737-60 along with one with a St. Andrew reverse (1740-CPS).
