Hannover 1747-IBH 4 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 74643 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 4 Mariengroschen, 1747-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS MS-62. Emanating from the middle period in the reign of Georg II, this deeply toned, nearly-Choice example yields a high degree of appeal and enchanting luster remaining as well. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1730-60 to the convention thaler standard (one thaler = 36 mariengroschen = 120 kreuzer). Hannover, linked to the British crown 1714-1837, embroiled England in several continental conflicts the British establishment would rather have avoided.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
