Hannover 1745-IBH thaler Dav-2100
This specimen was lot 803 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,163 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg II. 1727-1760. Reichstaler 1745, Zellerfeld. Ausbeute der Grube Güte des Herrn. Kl. Prägeschwäche, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George II, 1727-60, thaler of 1745, Zellerfeld mint, on the "Goodness of the Lord" mine. Cleaned, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866. This mining thaler was issued three times 1745-56; a similar thaler honoring the same mine is known from Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (Dav-2164).
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
