Hannover 1745-IBH 2 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 73617 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 2 Mariengroschen, 1745-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. A lovely example of the type with lilac gray surfaces intermingled with generous amounts of gold toning. Well struck and attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." Another two mariengroschen exists for 1745 with a monogram obverse (KM 271). This wild man type has a slightly higher catalog value, likely because of greater demand than any difference in rarity. It was struck 1730-60 with little interruption.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
