Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel 1745-IBH thaler Dav-2163
This specimen was lot 30664 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $1,468.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel. Karl I Taler 1745-IHB AU58 NGC. A large and illustrative example commemorating the Goodness of the Lord Mine with crowned complex arms and wildmen supporters. Overall pleasing silvery-gray patination with unbelievably sweet iridescent blue, amber, and gold highlights surrounding the coin's intricately detailed devices. A small reverse flan flaw needs mentioning, however it does nothing to detract from this coin's awesome eye-appeal." This mining thaler of 1743-48 is rare. A similar thaler, honoring the same mine, is known from the German state of Hannover (Dav-2100).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
