Sincona sale 51, lot 3171

This specimen was lot 3171 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, Herzogtum, Karl I. 1735-1780. Taler 1745, Zellerfeld. Ausbeute der Grube Weisser Schwan. Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. Kleine Prägeschwäche. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel, Charles I, 1735-80, thaler of 1745, Zellerfeld mint, for the White Swan mine. Attractive patina, Extremely fine, Minor weakly struck area.)"

This type, honoring the "White Swan" mine, was struck 1744-48 and is fairly expensive. Other mining thalers (Dav-2161, Dav-2163) exist for 1745.
