Hannover 1741-IBH 1/6 thaler

Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41374

This specimen was lot 41374 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 1/6 Taler, 1741-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS AU-58. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1727-60 and is common. It was equal to six mariengroschen, a denomination last coined in 1715. It was the only one-sixth thaler struck in 1741.
