Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41379

This specimen was lot 41379 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 2 Mariengroschen, 1741-IBH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II August (George II of Great Britain). PCGS MS-62. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1730-60 and is common. The two mariengroschen was 1/18 of a thaler and was the smallest denomination struck in good silver. A two mariengroschen with a monogram obverse (KM 271, KM 279) was also struck in 1741.
