Hannover 1737-S ducat Fr-607
This specimen was lot 3587 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €2,800 (about US$3,774 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, Georg II. 1727-1760. Dukat 1737, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Harzer Gruben. Harzgold. GOLD. RR Leicht gewellt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Preussag Collection, Part I. Auktion London Coin Galleries/Künker 1, London 2015, Nr. 301. (Germany, electorate of Hannover, George II, 1727-60, ducat of 1737, Clausthal mint, for the Harz mines. Rare, slightly bent, very fine to extremely fine.)"
This type was struck 1730, 1735-41, 1746, 1750, 1756 but remains rare, probably because the yield of the mines was low. A ducat with the bust of the elector also exists for 1737. The Duchy of Brunswick was divided and subdivided in the seventeenth century but was eventually reassembled as the Kingdom of Hannover before being absorbed into Prussia in 1866.
