Sincona sale 20, lot 2766

This specimen was lot 2766 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "1/2 Franc AN 13 (1803-04). Limoges. Schön-sehr schön." This type was struck in France at numerous mints AN 12-14 and a complete set comprises 28 dates and mintmarks. This date from the Limoges mint is scarce but not a key. Le Franc[2] reports this date is much rarer than the mintage would indicate.

Recorded mintage: 205,401.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, decorated edge, 18 mm diameter, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819); this specimen 2.35 g.
