SB825-43401r.jpg

This specimen was lot 43401 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Demi-Franc (1/2 Franc), Year 13-BB (1804/5). Strasbourg Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, Fine Details. Though this example displays some fairly clear and dramatic tooling across its obverse, it nevertheless remains a RARITY and KEY to the series, boasting the lowest mintage. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired iNumis in 2008 for $576). Ex: iNumis 6 (11/2008) Lot # 971." This type was struck years 12-14 and the Paris mint product is moderately common. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed.

Recorded mintage: 889, a rare date.

Specification: 2.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, decorated edge.

Catalog reference: KM-655.2; Gad-395; F.174/11.
