This specimen was part of lot 71354 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $2,684. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Shown is a Napoleonic five francs struck at the Marseille mint (mint mark "MA") in 1804-05. It is a scarce date of a somewhat scarce type. The various designs of Napoleonic five francs form eight distinct types of which this is the fourth, struck 1804-06 (AN 13-14) with a complete set of this type comprising 27 date and mintmark combinations, some very rare. In 1806, the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed.

Recorded mintage: 64,158[2], a scarce date.

Specification: 37 mm diameter, 25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Nicholas Brenet, 1770-1846, and Jean-Pierre Droz, 1746-1823.
