This specimen was lot 2409 in Ponterio sale 164 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $1,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Francs, AN 12A (1803/4). Premier Consul. Light traces of adjustment marks. Toned. NGC MS-62." Shown is a Napoleonic five francs struck at the Paris mint (mint mark "A") in 1803-04. It is a somewhat scarce type. This date is common for the type. It was officially withdrawn from circulation in 1928 and demonetized in 2005 but ceased to circulate after World War One.
