This specimen was lot 71233 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Consulate. 2 Francs, Year 12-L (1803/4). Bayonne Mint. Napoleon (as First Consul). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details. Though some cleaning is noted, this elegant specimen otherwise offers engaging eye appeal through its sharp and well executed strike, glistening brilliance, and charming toning. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Superior in 1990 for $935). Ex: Superior (12/1990) Lot # 1310. Ex: Palace Collections of Egypt [King Farouk] (Sotheby's - 3/1954) Lot # 2132 (part of)." Year 12 (1803-04) represents the first year all the silver and gold denominations appeared. This type was struck year 12 only and the Paris mint product is moderately common; the others are all scarce to very rare.

Recorded mintage: 15,204[2], a scarce date, plus 1,247 of the Empereur type (F.251/7).

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
