Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43408

This specimen was lot 43408 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Quart de Franc (1/4 Franc), Year 12-K (1803/4). Bordeaux Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS VF-30. Fairly evenly handled, this charming specimen does display a few stray marks, the most noticeable of which is near the upper portion of the reverse, but stands as a representative from a more difficult mint. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Lepczyk in 1984 for $27). Ex: George Sobin Collection (Joseph Lepczyk - 3/1984) Lot # 1114 (part of)." This type was struck years 12-14 and the Paris mint product is moderately common. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed.

Recorded mintage: 8,122, a somewhat scarce date.

Specification: 1.25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, decorated edge.
