Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43323

This specimen was lot 43323 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $5,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Consulate. 5 Francs, Year 12-H (1803/4). La Rochelle Mint. Napoleon as First Consul. PCGS MS-61. The finer of just two observed in the PCGS census for the type, and the only such Mint State specimen, this example displays a deep gunmetal gray-cobalt hue along with pleasing brilliance among the fields. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from B. A. Seaby in London on 21 September 1972 for $344.40)." This is a somewhat scarce date of a type struck years XI and 12. The La Rochelle mint, which acquired its "H" mintmark from king François I in 1540, closed in 1835.

Recorded mintage: 69,939 plus 14,741 of the EMPEREUR type (F.302/4).

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, lettered edge.
