France ANXI-D 5 francs
This specimen was lot 43315 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Consulate. 5 Francs, Year XI-D (1802/3). Lyon Mint. Napoleon as First Consul. PCGS VG-8. Though somewhat mottled in its appearance and with some clear signs of time spent in circulation, this crown stands as a difficult and SCARCE issue. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Lepczyk in 1984 for $80). Ex: George Sobin Collection (Joseph Lepczyk - 3/1984) Lot # 1269." Le Franc reports two known of this date, the other in Extremely Fine. This type was struck years XI and 12 and the Paris mint product is moderately common (63.5% of the total minted).
