Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43317

This specimen was lot 43317 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Consulate. 5 Francs, Year XI-T (1802/3). Nantes Mint. Napoleon as First Consul. PCGS AU-55. A few planchet flaws are noted across both sides, but this near-Mint crown offers some gunmetal gray and iridescent hues throughout, elevating its overall nature--VERY RARE as such. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Superior in 1990 for $400). Ex: Superior (12/1990) Lot 1270 (part of). Ex: Palace Collections of Egypt [King Farouk] (Sotheby's - 3/1954) Lot # 2132 (part of)." This type was struck years XI and 12 and the Paris mint product is moderately common (63.5% of the total minted).

Recorded mintage: 17,864, a rare date, plus 9,950 of the Hercules type (F.287/78).

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, lettered edge.
