This specimen was lot 71237 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Consulate. 2 Francs, Year 12-W (1803/4). Lille Mint. Napoleon (as First Consul). PCGS VF-30. A VERY RARE example on account of its rather paltry mintage figure, this well circulated specimen remains wholesome and without issue, and also stands as the only such representative of the type in the PCGS census. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Christie's in 1988 for $247.50). Ex: Christie's New York (6/1988) Lot # 285." Year 12 (1803-04) represents the first year all the silver and gold denominations appeared. This type was struck year 12 only and the Paris mint product is moderately common; the others are all scarce to very rare.

Recorded mintage: 5,850[2], a rare date. The Lille mint did not strike any two francs of the Empereur type in year 12.

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
