The Zacatecas mint struck silver five centavos of the upright eagle style 1870-81 and 1886-97. Prior to that, there was a brief issue of "cap and ray" five centavos from Potosi and Mexico City in 1867-69. This date is scarce. Other mints include Hermosillo, Culiacan, Durango, Mexico City, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Oaxaca, Alamos and Potosi. It, in turn, was replaced by a five centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898.

Recorded mintage: 20,000, including an 1873/2.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, .039 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 398.10.
