Mexico 1873-Ga C 10 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 71295

This specimen was lot 71295 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1873/1-Ga C. Guadalajara Mint. NGC MS-65. Finest and only two examples of this overdate graded at NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Guadalajara mint struck this silver ten centavos 1871-74, 1877, 1881-95 and most of the dates are common or fairly common, as here. Assayer C is listed for 1871-74. The overdate shown here is mentioned in the SCWC but not awarded a premium.

Recorded mintage: 25,000, including the regular date.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.
