Mexico 1873-Pi H 50 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 72291

This specimen was lot 72291 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1873-Pi H. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC AU Details--Reverse Stained. Finest of three graded by NGC. Staining on obverse and reverse, but not heavy. Attractive in this scarce assayer. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from San Luis Potosí is slightly scarcer than the accompanying 1873-P^I O. Like most fifty centavos, high grade specimens are extremely rare.

Recorded mintage: 32,000 including assayer O.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
