This specimen was lot 6425 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $2,415. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Oaxaca. 8 Reales, 1873-AE. RARE date and one of the finest known. Sharply struck, light peripheral toning. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED." The SCWC lists this as a rare date for Oaxaca. After 1869, production of cap-and-ray eight reales was suspended at Oaxaca in order to mint balance scale pesos; the eight reales resumed in 1873.
