Goldberg sale 106, lot 2319

This specimen was lot 2319 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it sold for $72. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Mexico. 8 Reales, 1873-C MP. Scarce date. PCGS graded Very Fine Detail (Tooled)." This date is scarce as Culiacan spent most of the year minting the balance scale peso. This specimen sold cheap because of the scratches on the obverse. In 1874, the mintmark was changed to "C^N".
