Mexico 1873-Ca MM 8 reales

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 NYINC sale, lot 23221

This specimen was lot 23221 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $264. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1873-Ca MM. Chihuahua Mint. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. Sharply struck with mostly brilliant surfaces." This example is an eight reales from the Chihuahua mint, assayers M and M. The MM assayer combination ran from 1868 to 1895. Many of the coins minted this year were sent to China as trade dollars.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
