Mexico 1873-Go S 10 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 71312

This specimen was lot 71312 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $360. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1873-Go S. Guanajuato Mint. NGC AU-58. Only example graded by NGC. Very nice with light toning. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Guanajuato mint struck this type 1869-97 and most dates are common. Guanajuato is one of four mints which also struck the ten centavos with the revised eagle used 1898-1905. This example realized three times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 50,000, a somewhat better date.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.
