Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71437

This specimen was lot 71437 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Quart de Franc (1/4 Franc), Year 13-L (1804/5). Bayonne Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS EF-45. The sole representative of the type in the PCGS census, this wholesome minor sports a pleasing level of toning. From the Richard Margolis Collection." This type was struck years 12-14 and the An 12-A, An 12-I, An 13-A, An 13-I and An 13-M are moderately common; the others are all scarce to very rare. The catalog[2] notes twenty dates for the type.

Recorded mintage: 24,645[2], a somewhat scarce date.

Specification: 1.25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
