Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71441

This specimen was lot 71441 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $528. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Quart de Franc (1/4 Franc), Year 14-L (1805/6). Bayonne Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS VF-35. Standing as the only example of the type in the PCGS census, this evenly circulated minor remains quite wholesome and appealing. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Bill Applegate on 28 April 1983 for $90)." This type was struck years 12-14 and the An 12-A, An 12-I, An 13-A, An 13-I and An 13-M are moderately common; the others are all scarce to very rare. The catalog[2] notes twenty dates for the type.

Specification: 1.25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, 15 mm diameter, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
