Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71378

This specimen was lot 71378 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Franc, Year 14-L (1805/6). Bayonne Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS VF-30. Though well circulated, this VERY RARE emission remains exceptionally wholesome and rather important. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Windy City Coin Co. [Marv Frank] at the INS Convention in Washington, D.C. on 22 September 1978 for $350)." This type was struck years 12-15 of which the An 13-A is by far the most common date. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed.

Recorded mintage: 4,101[2], a rare date.

Specification: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 23 mm diameter, decorated edge. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
