Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 43394

This specimen was lot 43394 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Franc, Year 14-MA (1805/6). Marseille Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS F-15. A VERY RARE emission from a lesser-seen branch mint, this well circulated example stands as the only such representative for the date and mint in the PCGS census. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Defranoux in 1984 for $185). Ex: Jean-Marie Defranoux (9/1969) Lot # 224 (part of)." This type was struck years 12-15 of which the An 13-A is by far the most common date. In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed.

Recorded mintage: 6,898, a rather scarce date.

Specification: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 23 mm diameter, decorated edge.
