Aureo y Calicó sale 447, lot 1136

This specimen was lot 1136 in Aureo y Calicó sale 447 (Barcelona, March 2025), where it sold for 220 € (about US$287 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "s/d. Archduke Fernando, nephew of Carlos I. Hall. 1/2 taler. MBC [very fine]." Ferdinand was archduke of Tyrol and his control of the mint at Hall gave him access to a large supply of silver which was struck into half thalers, thalers and double thalers. His daughter Anna married the emperor Matthias, reuniting Ferdinand's branch with the main line of the Hapsburgs.
